I'm an academic at Curtin University, located on Whadjuk land of the Noongar people, in Boorloo, Western Australia, working at the intersection of technology, semantics, and linked data. My career is fuelled by a fascination with these fields, guiding my research from its inception to high-profile engagements, and reinforcing my commitment to applying innovative solutions to real-world problems. I am dedicated to enhancing the student experience through research, relentless innovation, global collaboration, and strategic outreach, transforming contemporary education.

My teaching philosophy is captured in “Inquire. Illuminate. Ignite!” To me, teaching is first exploring, then sharing, and always facilitating. I put this philosophy into practice through my research into active learning, which advances both my own development and my students’ learning.

My journey began with the rigorous pursuit of my PhD, where personal development and research impact were at the core of my endeavours. Over time it became clear that progress lies in nurturing the potential of others. By transitioning from a research-centred role to one that embraces innovative teaching and Higher Degree by Research (HDR) supervision, I have shifted from advancing my own knowledge to empowering the students who will shape tomorrow. I currently supervise HDR students across technology, semantics, linked data, tertiary education practices, AI usage in higher education, underwater heritage, underwater photogrammetry, and museum experiences.

I have published more than 70 peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, and book chapters. The threads running through them are the semantic web and linked data, spatial data infrastructures, digital cultural heritage, and assistive technology — from indoor navigation for vision-impaired people, to autism-friendly public transport apps, to virtual museums and underwater photogrammetry of shipwreck sites.
