Teaching

Through my teaching and supervisory roles, I have fostered collaborative environments that ignite curiosity, drive innovation, and ultimately lead to transformative outcomes. My approach is grounded in the belief that developing emerging students and scholars is the most impactful way to ensure that every step forward benefits People, Partnership, Planet.

Innovation in the classroom

Innovation has been a cornerstone of my teaching. Since 2008 I have been a pioneer in digital education, creating teaching podcasts and video lectures — by 2010, my videos for a single unit had been downloaded more than 88,000 times. That expertise, and a willingness to share it, proved vital during the COVID-19 pandemic, when I supported colleagues in the transition to interactive online delivery, holding university-wide workshops and creating instructional videos.

AI in learning and teaching

The advent of AI is revolutionising learning and teaching, and true to my love of pushing boundaries, I have embraced it in my own practice. I developed a framework for students to use AI in their research — a first at the university — which was warmly received and is now being replicated by many across campus. That work has drawn my institution's attention: I have become a leading voice in how academics can use AI in their learning and teaching, training colleagues and presenting at events across Curtin's global campuses.

I currently teach three units, and make no apology for how much fun they are:
